Stay on the Path

I was there recently and wanted to soak it all in. I didn’t want to miss any of the beauty. It’s awe-inspiring — and so varied. There was so much to see as the water ran off the geysers, including colored steam!

As I was looking at one of the geysers, the water was clear, blue and slightly steaming. I kept thinking to myself, “It looks like a nice minerally hot tub. I’d like to get in!” It’s so attractive. But, there are warning signs everywhere — stay on the path, don’t touch the water. It would severely burn or even kill me. I knew all the warnings but there was still something about it that was drawing me to it.

The attractiveness of these geysers reminded me of sin. These small bodies of water looked so attractive, almost mesmerizing. To the point I had to really make sure I understood the consequences of touching the water. Just like sin, it comes to us in very attractive forms, seemingly innocent. But, it will lead to destruction. The path signs reminded me of the Bible — it’s there to give us warnings — warnings to stay away from the things that lead us to death.

The devil is deceiving and is always looking for ways to make sin look more attractive to us. But, God is good and gives us His Word to warn us. He gives us the warning signs so we can stay on the right path.

“Show me the right path, O Lord; point out the road for me to follow. Lead me by your truth and teach me, for you are the God who saves me. All day long I put my hope in you.” — Psalm 25:4-5 (NLT)

As you go through this life, God will show you the right path to follow as you are in His Word and prayer.
